Released in 1969, Black And White contains some of the best swamp-folk-soul-funk of the era. Hailing from the soggy marshlands of Louisiana, Tony Joe White is nothing but the real thing, his deep voice sounding like it's dredged from the bottom of the swamps itself.
His catchy songs are chock full of witty, sometimes even funny lyrics on rural life in the Dirty South, accompanied by a strong and funky backing band. White tackles cover versions of Johnny Taylor's hit "Who's Making Love" and O.C. Smith's "Little Green Apples", as well as his own material like "Soul Francisco" and his major U.S. hit, "Polk Salad Annie".
Highly recommended for fans of Creedence Clearwater Revival, J.J. Cale
