180g Vinyl
The Who by Numbers is the seventh studio album by English rock band The Who, released on October 25, 1975 in the United States by MCA Records. It was named the tenth-best album of the year in The Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics poll.
Having to follow four monumental releases in succession, The Who By Numbers is often overlooked and unfairly overshadowed. Produced again by Glyn Johns and released in 1975, the album is a more modest, simple affair, certainly withstanding the test of time by its own merits. In what might be his most personal tell-all collection (outside of some of his future solo albums), Pete Townshend lays it out there in lyrics of brutal honesty regarding battles with alcoholism and womanizing. Probably best known for the radio-friendly ditty Squeeze Box, the set also contains patented Who in the terms of Slip Kid, Blue Red and Grey plus one of bassist John Entwistle’s best compositions, Success Story.
