Harvest Moon, Neil Young's 1992 sequel to his hugely successful Harvest collection, exposed a wistful, softer side to the grizzled rocker. Eight years later, Young is back with a largely traditional collection, Silver & Gold, and this one finds him getting almost downright sappy, but it suits him well. There is a down-home warmth that resonates throughout this album. Longtime Young fans may find it hard to believe, this is the defiant voice of the man dubbed "The Godfather of Grunge", but Silver and Gold is vintage Young in many ways.
