The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (Wiener Philharmoniker) plays Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5. Conductor: Herbert von Karajan. With his fifth symphony, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky yet again demonstrated why he was one of the romantic era's finest composers. The symphony was composed between May and August 1888 and was first performed in St Petersburg at the Mariinsky Theatre on November 18 of that year with Tchaikovsky conducting.
