Strings have long held a fascination for jazz musicians. From bandleader Paul Whiteman, a violin and viola player who set out to "make a lady out of jazz," and the "Bird with Strings" sessions in the early 50s, jazz musicians have been intrigued by both the symbolism and the sound of strings - with mixed results. What sets The Jazz Kamerata apart is Carlos Franzetti.
"My experience comes from both classical and jazz - and knowing each side I know there's a fine line you must not cross," says Franzetti, a classically trained jazz pianist, singer, composer and arranger with active careers in jazz, pop and classical music.
This is a great late night jazz album. With Jazz Kamerata, Grammy Award® winning composer and arranger Carlos Franzetti has taken the best jazz standards from Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, Keith Jarrett, Wayne Shorter, Bill Evans and others, and arranged them for a chamber jazz ensemble, featuring strings and woodwinds in addition to bass, piano and saxophone. There is a feature on Carlos Franzetti in the February 2005 issue of Jazziz Magazine.
